8th September 2008
Rotherham united against the BNP
September saw over 4000
people at the LMHR festival
organised in association with
Unite Against Fascism. In the wake
of the BNP winning two seats in the
May local elections the event united
Rotherham against racism and
division of the fascists.
The press conference which
launched the day was a huge success
with over two hundred people in
attendance. Holocaust survivor Agnes
Grunwald-Spier’s message of ‘Never
Again’ was echoed by all the speakers.
Rotherham’s Labour MPs John Healey
and Denis MacShane also spoke.
“This is a great way to take the
anti-racist, anti-fascist, anti-BNP
message to young people,” said John
Healey.
Raji Khan from the Muslim
Initiative in Brinsworth highlighted
the increase in racism since May.
Other speakers including Council
Leader Roger Stone, Cllr Mahroof
Hussain and John Campbell from
Unite Against Fascism urged people to
join the campaign to make Rotherham
a BNP free zone as soon as possible.
